The needle valve is a high pressure 3/4" with NPT threads and a 0 - 5000 PSI gauge installed. The valve allow you to put an artificial load on the pump and check the flow rate. It should stay constant. As you turn the valve and the pressure starts to build the flow should stay the same. If the pressure increases and the flow rate drops, you have a bad pump.
